Honor, a Huawei sub-brand, launched its flagship Honor 6 Plus in India back in March this year. The smartphone’s USPs is its great build quality, top-of-the-line specifications, a unique bionic parallel dual-lens camera at the back, and an attractive price tag — Rs 26,499. Deemed as a flagship killer for obvious reasons, it won’t be too much to say that it can compete against some of the high-end flagships, including Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus. We pit the two flagships against each other in a comparison on the basis of their price, specifications and features to see which comes on top.

Price

The Honor 6 Plus is priced at Rs 26,499, and the company also offers a gold variant, which is priced a tad higher at Rs 27,499. But it’s relatively very cheap when you compare it to the iPhone 6 Plus’ starting price of Rs 52,648. The iPhone’s prices go up to Rs 74,400 for the 128GB variant.

Size and design

With both the smartphones featuring a 5.5-inch display, they should ideally be of the same size. But keep them side-by-side and you can see the Honor 6 Plus is actually sleeker. It features dimensions of 150.46×75.68×7.5mm. While the iPhone 6 Plus is slightly thinner at 7.1mm, it comparatively taller and wider with dimensions of 158.1×77.8mm. The Honor 6 Plus is also lighter to hold weighing in a 165 grams, while the iPhone 6 Plus weighs 172 grams.

In terms of design, both are super sleek smartphones. The front and back of the Honor 6 Plus is covered in glass, and also boasts a metal frame. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, is covered in glass on the front, while the back features an aluminum unibody.

Display

Both the smartphones flaunt 5.5-inch screens, and the resolution is same as well at full HD (1920×1080 pixels). The size and resolution of the display translates into a pixel density of 401ppi. Both displays are equally capable and do a great job at color reproduction and viewing angles. While the iPhone 6 Plus only lets you tweak the brightness, the Honor 6 Plus lets users change the color temperatures according to what you prefer.

Processor

The Honor 6 Plus is powered by Huawei’s in-house Hisilicon Kirin 925 octa-core processor. It features four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, and another four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The octa-core processor is paired with Mali-T628 MP4 GPU and 3GB of RAM.

The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.4GHz A8 dual-core 64‑bit SoC. The processor is paired with M8 co-processor, which takes care of fitness tracking activities without bothering the main processor. The processor is also accompanied by a PowerVR GX6450 GPU and 1GB of RAM.

Storage

The iPhone 6 Plus comes in three storage variants starting from 16GB and going up to 128GB. While the Honor 6 Plus only has 32GB variant, it also features a microSD card slot that can be used to expand the memory up to 128GB. Honor’s smartphone here has a huge advantage, because you can expand the storage to 128GB without having to burn a hole in your pockets, while the 128GB variant of the iPhone is priced at Rs 74,400.

Cameras

The iPhone 6 Plus is the first smartphone in Apple’s lineup to boast a camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). On paper it features an 8-megapixel camera at the back, and a 1.2-megapixel snapper up front.

The Honor 6 Plus, on the other hand, features a unique combination of two 8-megapixel cameras at the back. Honor calls it ‘bionic parallel dual-lens camera’ it offers the fastest focus within 0.1 seconds and depth recording for panoramic imaging. With Vision Camera technology and the help of its dual camera lens, the amount of light-in and the photosensitive area is twice the light-in captured by single-lens; this gives clearer and precise results under low-light giving it a HDR effect. Up front too, it offers an 8-megapixel camera with Sony BSI sensor. It is equipped with 10-level auto face enhancement and ‘Panoramic Selfie’.

Battery

In comparison to the iPhone’s 2,915mAh battery, the Honor 6 Plus is powered by a massive 3,600mAh battery. Furthermore, the battery on Honor’s smartphone comes with power saving technology 2.5, which makes it 30 percent more efficient, and at full-charge, it will last over 2.81 days for ordinary users, whereas heavy users will be able to use it for over 1.25 days.

It also comes with Huawei’s “Smart Power” battery-saving patented technology, which includes background power-consuming process reminder, situational awareness, unified heartbeat technology, and dynamic power control technology among others. Under super power-saving mode, the battery will last for more than 24 hours on 10 percent charge.

Software

The two smartphones run on two very different platforms, and it all comes down to what a buyer prefers. The Honor 6 Plus runs on Android KitKat wrapped under EMUI 3.0, which brings with it unique features like the magazine style unlock screen, and a lazy mode that makes the UI easy for one-handed use.

The iPhone 6 Plus runs on iOS 8.4, and for the first time introduced rotating UI, as well as one-handed use.

Extras

The iPhone 6 Plus has one feature that is absent on the Honor 6 Plus — fingerprint scanner. This feature is integrated into the home button on the front, and is used to either unlock the screen or for making payments via Apple Pay. The payment option also sees the inclusion of NFC, which is another feature missing on the Honor 6 Plus.

Despite the last couple of missing features, the Honor 6 Plus is easily able to go head-to-head with the iPhone 6 Plus. Most of the specifications are on par, and it much sleeker than Apple’s smartphone too. But what makes it really enticing though is the price tag, which is nearly half of Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus.
